About Kemuri Coffee Co.
Kemuri Coffee Co. is a Japanese-inspired specialty café located in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. We focus on quality specialty coffee, matcha, thoughtfully crafted food, and a welcoming café experience.
We are looking for a passionate, creative and hands-on Chef to take ownership of our food offerings, manage daily kitchen operations and help develop a distinctive café menu.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building menus, experimenting with new dishes and contributing to the growth of an independent café.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Operations
Independently manage daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating and service.
Prepare high-quality café dishes, including breakfast items, sandwiches, toasties, light meals and desserts.
Ensure consistency in food quality, taste, presentation and portion sizes.
Maintain kitchen cleanliness, hygiene and food safety standards in accordance with Singapore Food Agency (SFA) requirements.
Manage ingredient preparation, inventory, stock rotation and food storage.
Coordinate with the service and barista team to ensure smooth daily operations.
Menu Development & Creativity
Develop and introduce new café dishes that complement Kemuri's Japanese-inspired concept.
Create appealing breakfast, brunch, lunch and light dinner offerings.
Experiment with Japanese-inspired flavours, seasonal ingredients and creative café food concepts.
Develop signature dishes that differentiate Kemuri from other cafés.
Standardise recipes, portion sizes and preparation procedures.
Continuously improve existing menu items based on customer feedback and sales performance.
Cost & Inventory Management
Monitor food costs, portion control and ingredient wastage.
Source ingredients and work with suppliers to maintain quality and cost efficiency.
Assist with menu pricing and food profitability.
Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise unnecessary waste.
Requirements
Previous experience as a Chef, Cook or Chef de Partie in a café, restaurant, hotel or similar F&B establishment.
Able to independently prepare and manage a variety of café-style dishes.
Experience with breakfast, brunch, sandwiches, light meals or Western/Japanese-inspired cuisine is advantageous.
Passionate about food development, presentation and creating memorable dishes.
Good understanding of kitchen hygiene, food safety and inventory management.
Able to work independently in a small kitchen environment.
Organised, reliable, proactive and comfortable working in a growing business.
Willing to contribute ideas and take ownership of the food menu.
Relevant culinary qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
Must meet applicable Singapore food-handler training and food safety requirements.
