Head Chef - Western Bar Food

Malthouse is a neighbourhood bar and kitchen on East Coast Road. We serve wood-fired pizzas, burgers and smoked meats, with 20 taps of cold beer and a beer garden full of regulars, families and their dogs. It's busy, it's friendly and nobody takes themselves too seriously.

We're looking for a Head Chef to run the kitchen and make it their own.

Full-time · 5.5 days a week · $3,800–$4,500/month

What you'll do

• Run the kitchen day to day: prep, service, ordering, cleaning and food safety
• Lead and train a small team, and set the standard for everything that goes out the pass
• Keep the menu sharp: refine what we do now, develop new dishes and specials, and help run our BBQ nights and events
• Cost every dish properly and keep food cost under control
• Manage stock, suppliers and wastage
• Keep the kitchen running smoothly across dine-in, delivery and takeaway

What we're looking for

• Experience running a kitchen or a section, as a Head Chef or a Sous Chef ready to step up
• Solid Western cooking. Pizza, grill or smoker experience is a big plus
• Someone calm under pressure who leads by example and treats the team well
• Comfortable with the numbers side: costing, ordering, stock control
• Attitude matters more to us than a fancy CV
